Why companies build teams in Romania

Lundi supports compliant employment in Romania — Bucharest for SSC and finance, Cluj-Napoca and Timişoara for engineering. One of Europe's top engineering and SSC markets at meaningfully lower cost than Poland. Strong fit for engineering, finance, and SSC operations at scale. For broader senior depth we also consider Poland.

Romania has built one of Europe's strongest engineering and SSC sectors over the past 15 years. Bucharest concentrates finance, banking, and SSC operations — Bitdefender, UiPath (Romanian-founded), plus extensive multinational presence. Cluj-Napoca and Timişoara are the engineering hubs (Endava, Bitdefender, plus deep Romanian and international tech employer presence). Romanian leu (RON) is the local currency — EU member, not yet eurozone. Employer social contributions are low (~2.25% CAS minimal + work insurance). Strong fit for engineering teams at scale, SSC, finance, and customer success operations. For companies building teams of 10+, not individual hires. Frequently the right answer when Poland is too expensive but engineering depth and EU compliance matter.

Cost of Employment in Romania

What it costs to employ someone through Lundi.

Lundi's cost is the all-in cost of the employee — gross salary plus statutory employer contributions plus customary benefits — and a Lundi management fee on top. The management fee depends on team size and scope: smaller teams pay a higher per-head rate, teams of 20+ get materially better unit economics, and Build–Operate–Transfer engagements are structured separately.

The alternative paths look like: setting up your own local entity (meaningful months of legal and accounting work, plus ongoing in-country HR, payroll, and compliance infrastructure), engaging a local recruitment agency on contingency (typically a percentage of first-year compensation, paid once, with no ongoing employment relationship), or hiring as a contractor (lower upfront cost, real misclassification risk in most jurisdictions). Lundi is faster than entity setup, structurally different from contingency recruitment, and lower-risk than contractor arrangements.

Employer Tax Costs in Romania

The breakdown of taxes for employers in Romania is as follows:

Employees in Romania are taxed 10% regardless of their income bracket. Employees are also taxed 25% for social security (pension) contributions and 10% which goes to a health fund.

Employee Probation in Romania

In Romania, the probation period is 90 calendar days for standard positions and 120 calendar days for management positions.

In the absence of misconduct, the notice period for employers and employees must be no less than 20 days for standard positions and 45 days for management positions.

If an employee resigns, their employer has the right to waive the notice period and terminate the contract at any time before the end of the notice period.

Why Companies Choose Lundi

If you need help with anything, we're here for you

Who is Lundi for?

Lundi works with companies building teams of 10 or more across business, technical, and operational functions . Not for one-off hires or individual placements.

How is this different from an EOR?

EOR platforms employ individuals for you. Lundi recruits, employs, and operates concentrated teams — including day-to-day management, HR, and an optional path to your own entity. It's the operating model for companies that have outgrown the EOR ceiling.
